In this project, I have been looking into the protection of British butterflies and the conservation of there habitat. Researching the British Red List of butterflies and looking into the work that the “Back From The Brink” project have done I thought I would base my work on their’s promoting the protection of these animals. The work I have created is Origami designs of the species of butterfly that are endangered or critically endangered in Britain with a “How to Make” sheet as well making awareness of there project and make more people aware of the problems they’re trying to solve.
The eyes and the homeless man being so unseen and hidden has great meaning with the subtle darkness of the design being the very real truth. The man symbolizes having nowhere to go as there habitat is constantly destroyed and the eyes are to show that we need to look out for these creatures and make sure we don’t lose these animals in Britain.
This Macaw drawing has been linked with the endangered project. Even though there not an endangered animal I though this project would be a great way to experiment with layers in my drawing and show a different more technical way of drawing. Even though there not endangered you can still adopted a Macaw on the the WWF website.
This project has been going on for quite a long time. This 8 foot by 4 foot drawing has been the centre piece to finish the spiritual animals series with the largest animal on the planet being the inspiration for the size of the piece. This mural has been a challenge I have enjoyed massively not only because of its size but this was the first public drawing I have ever done and getting so many great comments from passers by has improved my confidence massively. I also have great news in that I was lucky enough to have two news articles about my public drawing so make sure to check them out with the Lancashire Telegraph and my university newspaper at Bucks New University.
Looking into the spiritual animal of the Whale it is a holder of wisdom, keeper of history, has a great importance in family, very peaceful and is very good with there communication skill. If this sounds anything like you comment bellow.
The Blue Whale is the Largest animal on the planet and can grow up to 100 feet long. There is an estimated 10,000 to 25,000 on the planet making them on the endangered list and also threatened to be critically endangered. Blue Whales are threatened by mostly us human beings. Water pollution is making them lose there habitat but also fishing boats and there nets to catch other fish damage the whales. For more information and to maybe help the WWF visit there website to see there work and what they have been doing to help.
The Rhinoceros sondaicus or also know as the Javan Rhino are the most threatened of the five rhino species with only 58-68 individuals surviving in Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia. Looking into the treat they face it has massively changed with human effects being much less than in the past. Like all the Rhino species poachers have treated them with taking there horns for trophies and to make medicine but the last Javan Rhino poached was in 2010. For more information visit the Javan Rhino page on the WWF website.
The Pseudoryx nghetinhensis or most commonly known as the Saola is now classed as a critically endangered animal. Is is unknown how many are still alive but they estimate less then 250 are in existence. One of the biggest reason these animals are nearly extinct is because of humans. The Saola have been hunted for years. There horns have made them a big target amongst the locals as they take like trophies because they look impressive. Saola live in Evergreen forests but the constant removal of there habitat with deforestation and being hunted for the impressive horns has resulted in a huge decrees to their population.
For one of my University Projects I’m doing a series of Endangered animals but still carrying the previous spirit animals afterwards. To start this new series I have created the Logo and hope you all like it. This is also on my Redbubble account.
